Our living room is the HUB of the house! Whether we’re drinking coffee during an early weekday morning or watching SEC football on a Saturday, more often than not Mack and I can found on the couch in our living room. I saw an image on Pinterest the other day that stated how childhood punishments such as, being grounded {aka forced to stay home} and going to bed early, are now what dreams are made of. I couldn’t agree more as I am happiest when I am planted on this couch with Mack, Rebel and Tiger by my side. Best feeling in the entire world, I swear! I am sure many of you can relate. With a busy life, it’s great to decompress and there’s no better place to do just that than in your living room with the perfect candle burning.

As previously mentioned in a few of my home posts, our house offers a very open concept but is just over 1,000 square feet! With a small space that flows, keeping the decor cohesive is key for us. We also wanted to incorporate both of our styles which is sometimes hard for me as I always gravitate toward more feminine touches. However, I feel like our living room is the most neutral room in our house! Here are three tips for creating a comfortable yet cohesive living room in your open concept home:

  • Focus on a {comfortable} focal point: Mack’s only request for the living room was a large sectional couch. It’s the most comfortable piece of furniture ever but so large that I couldn’t get the right angle from my camera to capture the entire piece (head over to my insta-story as I did a walk though this morning)! With a comfy couch and big television, we are both as happy as can be. Furthermore, our sectional breaks up the room between the living space and the dining room so that’s an added bonus.
  • Add art: No matter what your style or color scheme, you can find a piece of art that compliments the space. We use a ton of neutrals throughout our house so it made the most sense to situate a large black and white abstract piece above our couch. It balances and ties the entire room together! I believe that art has a way of doing that. Browse your local stores or Etsy to find a piece that suits you and your style.
  • Attention to the details:  To incorporate some fun finishes we picked the faux metallic longhorn, a simple but pretty lamp, and faux cowhide pillows to tie in with our dining room that is situated just off the living room. You may recognize the striped poufs from our patio update. Even though fall isn’t here quite yet, I decided to move the poufs inside to store them for the season. I LOVE how they look on either side of our tv console. Metallic details can be found throughout our entire house so it was easy to select a few fun and simple finishes for this space. To complete your space, pick tiny touches that successfully accomplish the vibe you’re trying to accomplish in this inviting space and you’re set!

This month marks one year in our home (seriously, time flies) and we almost have it a point where it’s totally ours. Although I am always changing items around, finding new touches to add (thanks, Homegoods) or organizing the space down to a tee, there’s no place like home and especially no place like your couch when you’re curled up under a blanket!

Wishing you a great Wednesday! Thank you for stopping by today.
