No matter what, your hometown is your hometown! I grew up in a suburb of Denver, attended an all-girls high school and to date, have spent the majority of my life in Colorado. It’s beautiful for sure, but living in the South has opened my eyes to different places in our country. If I am being honest, I now feel more “at home” on Florida’s Emerald Coast but will never forget the place that built me.
A few weeks ago I took a weekend trip to Colorado and made time to stop by some of my favorite places! Because when you fly across the country, you make time to hit every place you’ve been missing. As my Mom and I zipped around town hitting all of our fun spots, I knew I had to share my side of Denver with each of you. Let’s skip the obvious outdoorsy things to do in Colorado like “go skiing” and get to the good stuff like best place to enjoy a cocktail with a view and where to shop… you know, the important stuff! Here’s how I do my hometown:
Favorite Boutiques to Visit: If I remember correctly, Patterns & Pops started just as I moved from Denver to North Carolina. But with diligent Instagram stalking (#shameless), I’ve followed them since the start! I was so happy when I saw that they opened a brick and mortar store and made a point to visit them earlier this month. Ugh, if I could have bought it all… I would have! But I just settled on this adorable blush tank that pays homage to my #hometown, for now! They’re located on Platte street (see more on cute neighborhoods below, but Platte street is a YES!) and steps from Denver Beer Company. Drop the hubby off there and run to see them. You’ll love it.
Best View of the City: Believe it or not, the best city view is housed at a mortuary turned restaurant! Don’t knock it until you try it haha. Linger, formerly known as O’linger’s, is a converted mortuary in the heart of Denver’s cutest LoHi neighborhood. They have a unique menu featuring crisp craft cocktails and a rooftop bar that boasts the best view of the city. Hands down! My cousin and I lived in Denver for a few months after we graduated college. We went to Linger every chance we got (trying to achieve “regular” status) mostly because we loved nothing more that clinking glasses on that rooftop.
Most Adorable Neighborhood/s: The LoHi neighborhood is my personal favorite. It’s sprinkled with restaurants, boutiques, the best little ice cream spot (Little Man Ice Cream), farmers markets and more. Mack and I always joke that if we moved back, that’s where we’d live. It’s a young area and just embodies our generation in a few square blocks- everything that we love is right there.
I would also recommend Five Points, which is located near Coors Field where the Colorado Rockies play! It’s so funny because as referenced in my Father’s Day post, I’ve been going to baseball games with my Dad my entire life. When I was little… Five Points was NOT the place you wanted to be. Fast forward 15 years and next thing you know, I am wedding dress shopping in an upscale warehouse in Five Points! It’s amazing how much the area has changed and it’s industrial and so, so chic.
As my Dad drove me home from the airport, the sun was just setting and the mountains and sky were amazingly pretty. Returning home is always the best and I am reminded that I’ve been so blessed to live near the mountains and the beach! Doesn’t get much better than that.
